Products » Pack Carburizing Compounds
One of the oldest heat treating processes, pack carburizing, is still used because it requires relatively simple and inexpensive equipment. It can be used in either batch or continuous type furnaces to produce deep cases both efficiently and economically. Parts are surrounded by the pack carburizer, sealed in steel containers and heated in an air furnace to operating temperature.
Pack Carburizing Compounds
| PRODUCT IDENTITY | TYPE | OPERATING TEMPERATURE |
| #18 PACK CARBURIZER | Barium Energized | 1500-1750 deg F (816-954 deg C) |
| PACK CARBURIZER BF #21 | Barium Free | 1500-1750 deg F (816-954 deg C) |
| #3 GRANULAR CHARCOAL | Barium Free | 1500-1750 deg F (816-954 deg C) |
#18 PACK CARBURIZER A non-burning type compound adapted to direct quenching. This compound gives the deepest cases for a given time-temperature cycle. Contains Barium.
PACK CARBURIZER BF #21 A new barium free pack carburizing compound which provides deep cases without the disposal problems associated with barium-containing wastes.
#3 GRANULAR CHARCOAL Commonly used in the heat treatment of steel as a pack-hardening medium.
